The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Industrial Research Chair (IRC) in Construction Engineering and Management was established through a partnership between NSERC, a consortium of construction companies, and the University of Alberta in 1997. Chairholder Dr. Simaan M. AbouRizk is also a Distinguished University Professor in the Hole School of Construction Engineering within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and currently holds the Canada Research Chair in Operation Simulation.
Our research program focuses heavily on contractor participation and involves collaboration with other researchers from the Hole School of Construction Engineering and elsewhere. The Chair collaborates with the Industrial Research Chair held by Dr. Robinson Fayek, and with the Industrial Research Chair held by Dr. Al-Hussein.
Dr. AbouRizk also collaborates, as a co-applicant, with Dr. Ming Lu on a Collaborative Research and Development Grant (CRD) on industrial construction process improvement, and as a co-applicant with Dr. Yasser Mohamed as a co-applicant on a CRD grant on civil construction process improvements.
